Fiat’s models available in the UK in 2021, almost two-thirds were electrified including mild hybrids and the new 500 which is the brand’s first pure EV. At least one low emissions version of each model was available, but given the popularity of such models, Fiat has decided to cut out a transition phase and sell only electrified variants.

The move lends itself to our vehicles which are suited to urban areas, spearheaded by the popularity of the new 500.”
The line-up is now made up of the 500 EV, 500 Hybrid, Panda Hybrid, 500X and Tipo Hybrid. From our point of view, it’s a little unfortunate that despite this move towards electrification, only the 500 EV is capable of zero emissions driving in any capacity, with the remainder of Fiat’s models all sporting mild hybrid powertrains which take the edge off emissions rather than significantly lowering them.
That being said, the new Fiat 500 EV has been a spectacular success for the brand, being the best-selling electric city car in 11 European countries and regularly being second only to Tesla in terms of all-out sales. A combination of a low entry price and the funky styling that has made the ICE version of the 500 such a roaring success is a big part of this.
In terms of what happens next, Fiat’s full electrification by 2027 plan is still either to be decided or under wraps. ‘TBA’ labels sit against its next passenger cars in the wider Stellantis model plan and the next confirmed EV from Fiat will be a Scudo van.
Given how quickly 2027 will come around, we expect more news soon. In the meantime, going electrified this year is at least a step in the right direction.
